Tara (von Neudorf). Cartographer of Sinister History
Artist: Tara (von Neudorf)
Curator: Monika Rydiger şi Łukasz Galusek
04.09.2013 – 24.11.2013
Opening: 03.09.2013, at 06:00 p.m. to International Cultural Centre, Krakow, Poland
The ICC Gallery (International Cultural Centre, Krakow, Poland) is the first venue in Poland to present the artistic oeuvre of Tara (von Neudorf), one of the most fascinating and most censored contemporary artists of Romania. As the basis of his paintings Tara uses old school maps and display boards from the era of Nicolae Ceauşescu communist rule, which he transforms, with paint and marker, into often shocking works. His sarcastic style of art, shot trough with a thread of black humour, provokes emotions both with its powerful, expressive form and for its critical content – its caricatural and uncompromising truth about our times. Tara addresses the themes of identity, the co-existence of cultures, and unhealed wounds. It is branded with the context of the place he comes from and works in – Transylvania.
